The Dalles, Oregon
Est. 1922
Our Oregon tie treatment plant has been in operation in The Dalles since 1922, with AmeriTies West LLC assuming management from Kerr McGee in February of 2005. Our wood is primarily sourced from Oregon and Washington sawmills, and the treated products primarily serve needs of America's Class 1 railroads. We supply crossties, switchties, and bridge timbers -- key components of the railroad infrastructure -- facilitating one the most energy efficient and cleanest forms of national transportation.
We have an experienced workforce. Several of our employees have been with this operation for more than 20 years. All of our employees are empowered to ensure the safety of our workforce, plant and community.
Health & Safety
Our plant was the first industrial facility in the state to be awarded OSHA STAR status, by Oregon OSHA (Occupation Health & Safety Administration) in 1996. This program identifies employers and employees who demonstrate exemplary occupational safety and health practices.
Our site and workforce undergo annual industrial health monitoring, which includes testing for dust, tar pitch volatiles and noise. Results consistently show workers and working conditions are safe.
Protecting the Environment
As a long-time member of the community, AmeriTies cares about protecting the environment in which we all live.
Our company operates in full compliance with environmental permits. We are also taking additional odor and emission reduction measures set out in a legally binding Mutual Agreement and Order our company signed with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality in April 2016. We are in the process of implementing a new wood preservative, which will reduce our naphthalene content by 50 percent.
